Vlad III of Wallachia, Romania, used cruel and controversial tactics to expand and benefit his empire. In the 15th century, Vlad III's tactics, including the impalement of his enemies, earned him the title of "Vlad the Impaler." He is a controversial figure in history due to his unconventional desire to spill the blood of his enemies, and his legacy lives on today as the fictional character Dracula, who was based on Vlad III.
